Florida Peninsula and Edison Insurance: Two Names, One Trusted Florida Group

If you've gotten a quote from us and seen both "Florida Peninsula" and "Edison" show up, that's not a coincidence — Edison is a subsidiary of Florida Peninsula, both based in Boca Raton and run under the same Windward Risk Managers operation. Knowing how they relate (and where they differ) makes it a lot easier to understand which one might actually make sense for your home.

Both Carry Strong Financial Ratings

Florida Peninsula and Edison each hold a Demotech Financial Stability Rating of A (Exceptional), most recently affirmed in June 2026. That rating is what most mortgage lenders look for as a minimum bar for an acceptable homeowners carrier — so both are solid options from a financial-strength standpoint.

Florida Peninsula: The Broader of the Two

Florida Peninsula has been insuring Florida homes since 2005 and now carries roughly 198,000 policies statewide, making it the state's 10th-largest residential insurer. It writes a wider range of coverage than Edison — HO-3 homeowners policies, landlord dwelling policies, condo unit-owner coverage, and renters insurance — plus optional endorsements like identity theft protection and equipment breakdown. It also offers flood coverage as a home policy endorsement, which is convenient if you're trying to simplify how many carriers you're dealing with.

Edison: Focused, and Recently Cut Rates

Edison sticks to a narrower lane — homeowners (HO-3) and condo unit-owner (HO-6) policies only, no landlord, renters, or flood coverage. What stands out right now is timing: Edison announced rate decreases in June 2026 — 10% on HO-3 policies and 10.5% on HO-6 — which is a meaningful move in a Florida market where most homeowners are used to rates only going one direction.

Both Have Been Absorbing Citizens Policies

Both carriers have participated in Citizens Property Insurance Corporation's depopulation program, taking on tens of thousands of policies combined over the past few years as part of the broader effort to shrink Florida's state-backed insurer of last resort. If you were moved out of Citizens recently, there's a decent chance it was to one of these two.

Which One Actually Fits Depends on Your Home

Because Edison and Florida Peninsula serve slightly different niches — Edison narrower and recently more aggressive on price, Florida Peninsula broader in what it covers — the better fit really comes down to your specific property type and what else you need bundled in.

Want to see how Florida Peninsula or Edison would actually price out for your home? We can run both side-by-side against your current policy in just a few minutes.
